Career Development at EBS Consultants

EBS Consultants is a specialist firm. People here develop faster than they would at a generalist consultancy because every project is genuinely technical. You will work across BCA assessments, fire safety, defect reports, litigation support, fire orders, access consulting and project management within your first year.

We invest in training, pay for study assistance, and actively support progression into senior and management roles. Our directors are accessible and hands-on. Career development here is not a policy document, it is how the firm operates.

Working at EBS Consultants

This is not a corporate. There are no layers of middle management, no approval chains for basic decisions and no performance review that happens once a year and then gets filed away. EBS is a specialist firm that operates like one, fast, direct and genuinely invested in the people who make the work happen.

Matthew started EBS because he wanted to build something that does compliance properly and treats its people properly. That's still the operating principle. The culture here is not described in a values poster, you see it in how the day actually runs.

Culture

How it actually works here.

We Work Hard and We Knock Off Hard

The work is technical and the standards are high. We run inspections, write reports, manage fire orders, attend conclaves and certify buildings. That requires real effort and real expertise. But when the arvo calls for it, the laptop closes. Last week Matt fired up the charcoal BBQ at 1pm and the afternoon became a team event. The week before, the Socceroos were playing, three screens went up, pizza was ordered and work waited. These aren't occasional team-building exercises that get scheduled six months in advance. They're just how things run when the team has earned it and the moment is right.

Monthly End-of-Month Events

Every month, the whole team goes out together. Not drinks in the office, actually out. Dinners, events, activities. It rotates, it's organised by the business and it's paid for. It's one of the ways the team stays connected across a firm that runs busy across multiple projects simultaneously.

Lunch and Learns, Client Meetings, Not Classroom Sessions

Our Lunch and Learns aren't internal presentations. We take the team to client meetings and client sites so they understand the business relationships, the people and the work in context. You learn who the clients are, what they care about and why the work matters, not from a slide deck but from being in the room. This is intentional. We want our consultants to develop their own professional network and client relationships, not just execute tasks handed down from above.

The Director's 4WD Is Available

Matt's 4WD is available to team members for camping weekends. Not a formal perk with a booking system, just the kind of thing that happens at a firm where people actually like each other.

Career Investment

We invest in your career, literally.

All Training, University and Courses Paid in Full

If it makes you better at what you do here, EBS pays for it. University enrolments, professional development courses, short courses, certifications, all paid in full. No partial reimbursements, no approval hoops, no expectation that you pay it back if you leave. We invest in the team's expertise because the work demands it and because it's the right thing to do.

Commission That Builds Your Career, Not Just Your Pay

The commission structure at EBS is designed to turn consultants into practitioners who own client relationships and develop their own streams of work, at the company's expense. The structure rewards two things: doing the core work exceptionally well, and building the business. This isn't a commission structure designed to extract extra effort for marginal reward. It's structured so that a consultant who develops their own clients and their own stream of work earns meaningfully more, and builds the kind of career that is theirs, not just ours.

Clear Progression Pathways

The career ladder at EBS is explicit: cadet, assistant consultant, consultant, senior consultant, manager, associate director. Each level is defined. Progression is based on performance, not tenure. If you are developing clients, leading projects and producing excellent work, the conversation about progression happens, not at your annual review but when it's evident.

Remuneration

Remuneration and benefits.

Competitive, Specific Salaries

EBS pays competitive salaries negotiated at offer. Remuneration is reviewed annually. The numbers are real, not “competitive” as a placeholder for average.

Leave, More Than the Minimum

  • 4 weeks paid annual leave under the National Employment Standards
  • 10 days paid personal and carer's leave
  • 5 additional paid leave days at the start of each financial year, provided upfront for work/life balance, your birthday and Christmas closure periods

The Revesby office is set up for people who work hard and work at a high standard. Modern facilities, the right equipment and a workspace that reflects what the firm is: a specialist, professional consultancy that takes the work seriously.

Not for every role. We hire across the full ladder, from cadets and assistant consultants through to senior and management positions. The cadetship is built for students in their final year and recent graduates from building surveying, construction management or related disciplines. If you are early in your career, apply for the entry-level roles and we will train you.
